Ons Jabeur and Anett Kontaveit are very good friends off the court but on the court, they are fierce rivals who played a few times already.
They played four times so far and Jabeur is leading 3-1 but one of the biggest victories Kontaveit scored was not in a direct matchup with Jabeur. It was in the battle for Guadalajara where Kontaveit pushed ut Jabeur from the WTA Finals spoiling it for Jabeur. The Tunisian player would have set a few records if she qualified for the event but Kontaveit had other ideas.
In the end, Jabeur was injured so she would not have been able to play anyway but before their upcoming clash down under, Jabeur joked about it:
"Anett is a great player. We had our moments last year. I told her, You’re obsessed with me, you always follow me, so stop (smiling).”
In line with their current H2H, Jabeur admitted that the pressure to win is on her especially with what happened with the WTA Finals. She jokingly said:
"I know the pressure is on me, not really on her. But maybe some payback for last year."
