Tennis fans expressed surprise after the media’s hype for a match
between Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and
Ben Shelton.
The two are set to face off in the second round of the
Omnium Banque Nationale Canadian Open on Wednesday.
There has been some hype in the media regarding the clash which
confused a lot of fans. Some stated that the move is likely to put more pressure
on Shelton.
While both are 20 years old, there is a contrasting difference
in the trajectory of their respective careers.
Alcaraz is currently the world's number one player and is
coming on the back of his first Wimbledon triumph where he defeated the
current world number two Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in a five-set thrilling final
with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
He will also be defending his crown at the upcoming US Open
which he won last year after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final with a
score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
On the other hand, Shelton’s most impressive performance in
any Grand Slam came earlier this year in the Australian Open where he was
knocked out from the quarterfinal stage after losing to fellow American Tommy
Paul with a score of 7-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
