World No.2 Daniil Medvedev has accepted a wildcard entry into the Mallorca Championships, an ATP 250 grass-court event that will be held next week. Set to make it's debut in 2020, the tournament was cancelled due to the pandemic.
The Russian joins World No.5 Dominic Thiem, who also received a wildcard entry into the event. Both men will be hoping to use the tournament to fine-tune their grass-court game, as Wimbledon begins in less than two weeks.
Medvedev competed at the ongoing Noventi Open, where was he was the top seed. However, he lost in the first round to German Jan-Lennard Struff, taking his career record on grass to 18-13. His best result on grass came two years ago, when he reached the semifinals at the cinch Championships in London.
After a first round exit at Roland Garros, it was announced that Dominic Thiem had accepted a wildcard to the Mallorca championships. The Austrian has not been very successful at Wimbledon, with his best result coming when he reached the fourth round in 2017.
