Never a dull moment with Bublik 🙃 #RolandGarros
Daniil Medvedev won his first match at Roland Garros ever by defeating Alexander Bublik 6-3 6-3 7-5.
It was an overall good display from notorious clay-hater Medvedev who battled past Alexander Bublik. Medvedev entered this match confident of his level and it showed in the match where he initially fell behind early. After breaking Medvedev early to take a 2-0 lead Bublik won only one game in the remainder of set which he lost by 6-3.
Oftentimes going for the unnecessary aggressive 2nd serve, Bublik was not able to outhit Medvedev who produced some stellar rallies. Clearly annoyed Bublik tried many different tactics to shorten the point but it did not work. Medvedev was happier to play longer rallies than usual oftentimes waiting for a mistake by Bublik.
The Kazakhstani player obliged more often than enough in the 2nd set which he lost by 6-3. In the final set, he played a bit more serious and had a chance to win the set when he served for it at 5-3. However, Medvedev produced some timely winners to break back and make it 5-5. He then added two more games to send the Russian-born Bublik packing.
A good start for Medvedev from whom this is his first Roland-Garros match victory in his career. One of many more to come at the French Open for the Russian.
