Medvedev showed consistent performances all week in Cincinnati, rewarding him with his first Masters 1000 title and move to the career-high in ATP ranking.
During the entire Western & Southern Open tournament, the Russian lost only one set. The only player who was able to win a set vs. Medvedev
in 6 matches was Novak Djokovic.
On the way to the finals, Medvedev defeated with his quality performances Edmund, Paire, Struff, Rublev and the already mentioned Novak Djokovic. In the finals,
he stood up to David Goffin. For both of the players, it would be their first title at the Masters 1000.
Medvedev managed to break the opponent's service already in the fourth game. But later Goffin took it back and both players continued without break until the tie-break. In the tie-break, the finalist from the Montreal tournament was stronger, winning the first set for himself.
Medvedev started the second set the best he could wish and broke already first Goffin's serve. None of the finalists then lost the serve, so Medvedev won 7-6 (3), 6-4.
In the new edition of the ATP ranking, Daniil will move to 5th place and we will see if he can continue in this great form at the upcoming US Open.
