Daniil
Medvedev achieved 15 consecutive victories after defeating Brandon Nakashima at
the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells
The good
streak continues for the Russian, who is looking to reclaim his spot at the top
of the rankings. He has won the last 3 tournaments he has played and today took
the first step towards seeking the title in
Indian Wells with his victory over
Nakashima, completing 15 straight matches without losing.
The young
American was one of the surprises of last season and won the Next Gen ATP
Finals, but he has not had a good 2023 so far. He has had four defeats and only
two victories up to now. However, the 21-year-old player started the California
tournament with impeccable play against his compatriot John Isner, but it was
not enough to trouble Medvedev.
With a
score of 6-4, 6-3 for the former world No. 1
Daniil Medvedev, Nakashima fought but it was not
enough, especially due to weaknesses shown in his second serve that cost him
some breaks that ultimately determined the winner. Medvedev's next opponent will
be Ilya Ivashka, who advanced after the withdrawal of Botic Van de Zandschulp.
