Daniil Medvedev overcame a loss of 1st set vs
Pablo Carreno Busta to reach the final of the Mallorca Championships.
Daniil Medvedev is the first finalist of the Mallorca Championships after a stellar comeback win over Pablo Carreno Busta 3-6 6-3 6-2. The Russian played well in the first set but Carreno Busta was a bit better. The set was a close one with both players having chances but Carreno was more composed. He saved 3 BP's while converting 1 of two he had and that was enough for the 6-3 win.
Medvedev turned it up in the 2nd set and started playing much better. He was sensational on his own serve and attacked Busta on his 2nd winning 80 % of those points. That gave him 5 break chances and he used one to secure the break which proved crucial. He never allowed Busta a BP and won the 2nd set with 6-3.
The start of the final set featured an early break by Medvedev who went up 2-0. Carreno struggled to answer Medvedev in rallies as the Russian simply has a stronger baseline game. Medvedev carved out another break point and took it for the 3-0 lead.
From there it was a rather straightforward match for the Russian who continued playing great and ended it with 6-2. A first grass final for the Russian who will be playing for his 11th title.
