Daniil Medvedev is in the Mallorca Championships semifinal after a stellar win over Casper Ruud 7-5 6-2.
The Russian is looking much better in Mallorca than he did in Halle and it's showing with another great win. Ruud is not a good grass player but he hung on pretty well in this one not allowing Medvedev to impose his will early on. All of that was mostly due to some great serving which stopped towards the end of the set.
As the serve deteriorated so did Medvedev's chances rise and the Russian seized it at 5-5 to take a 6-5 lead. From there he served it out and won the first set with 7-5. The 2nd set was a very interesting one as it featured a lot of excitement. Medvedev opened it with another break 1-0.
Ruud came back immediately to make it 1-1 but lost his serve once again. Medvedev hung on to his taking a 3-1 lead which became a 5-1 lead after he broke Ruud once more. Medvedev then closed it out with 6-1 to move on to the semifinals.
