Daniil Medvedev defeated Dominic Thiem to win the 2020 ATP Finals in London.
Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem fought for their very first ATP Finals title as both dominated their groups and confirmed their form also in the semifinals. The final match was as intense as expected by many. The match had all 3 sets and many spectacular shots.
Although the Russian was first to have 2 breakpoints in the 2nd game, he didn't convert them. Later, in the fifth game of the first set, Medvedev was up 40-0, but lost 5 points in a row what resulted in a loss of his service game and subsequently, Thiem has won the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Medvedev was much better in defending breakpoints when he avoided three. The set reached tie-break, which was dominated by the Russian who forced the third decisive set. In that set, Medvedev needed 6 breakpoints in total to gain the decisive advantage and win the match 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 and lift his first ATP Finals trophy.
