He plays in the second semi-final against qualifier Egor Gerasimov. They will face off for the third time in their career but the disparity is there to see in terms of ranking with 119 playing number four.
Don't count out Gerasimov though he has beaten some class names to get to this point including in his last match, a tight tie with Matteo Berrettini, one of the most in-form players in tennis right now 7-6, 7-6.
Despite that though of course Medvedev reached the final at Flushing Meadows and has been touted as the new face of men's tennis below the big names and he will hope to live up to his tag in what should be a comfortable route to the final.
Then it is Borna Coric against Joao Sousa. Coric, World No.15 reached this point by beating Marton Fucsovics and then Casper Ruud whilst Sousa last beat Mikhail Kukushkin 7-6, 6-2 after coming through a tough route seeing off Jozef Kovalik and Karen Khachanov.
Despite the disparity in rankings, Sousa is on a roll and it wouldn't be a massive shock to see him win this but it will likely go the distance.
