Medvedev overcomes the heat and Fognini at Olympics

Daniil Medvedev struggled with the heat once more but he was able to endure it and defeat Fabio Fognini 6-2 3-6 6-2 at the Olympic Games.

The Tokyo weather did not sit right with Medvedev yet again as he and Fabio Fognini both had numerous gestures complaining about the conditions during the match. Neither could do anything about it so they simply played tennis and it was great tennis at times.

Medvedev was stellar initially completely smashing Fognini early who took some time to get going. He was finally playing better by the end of the first set but the damage was done. In the 2nd he resisted Medvedev early which proved key for the 2nd set.

As it went on Fogni was able to break Medvedev and take the 5-3 lead. The Russian jumped out to a 40-0 lead in the next game to break back but Fognini held his nerve and closed out the set. In another protest against the heat, Medvedev walked off shirtless of the court to cool himself down.

Upon return, he looked rejuvenated and quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Fognini once again found himself in a tough spot and this time around he failed to wiggle himself out of it. Medvedev closed out the match with 6-2.
