Elina Svitolina and Marketa Vondrousova will have the chance to compete for medals at the Tokyo Olympics.
Svitolina faced off against Camila Giorgi and the Ukrainian put forward another great performance. Giorgi played on fire in the previous rounds but came out rather flat against Svitolina missing badly. Giorgi is a hard-hitter who rarely adapts and lives and dies by her baseline shots.
Today she struggled early as Svitolian jumped out to a 5-1 lead. After that Giorgi settled a bit and pulled a break back but Svitolina hung on and closed out the set with 6-4. The Ukrainian started off the 2nd set with another early break which was crucial.
Giorgi played much better in the 2nd set but she failed to create chances to get back into the match and Svitolina was able to close it out with 6-4. Joining her in the medal round will be Marketa Vondrousova who benefitted from an injury to Badosa.
Badosa was rolling early leading 3-1 before losing 5 straight games to lose opening set with 3-6. She took a MTO and retired shortly after.
