Daniil Medvedev faced a resurging Grigor Dimitrov at the Western & Southern in Cincinnati and routinely won 6-3 6-3.
The start of the match was an interesting one as Dimitrov was better in patches. The Bulgarian put some early pressure on Medvedev but the Russian was able to withstand it. After he finally found some rhythm he was able to break Dimitrov fairly easily and take a lead. Dimitrov would pull it back but Medvedev just broke him once more which proved enough for the first set 6-3.
Dimitrov had been playing extremely well in Cincinnati, as he often does, after struggling immensely in Montreal and Miami earlier. Today was a solid display at times but Medvedev was simply better. The start of the 3rd set featured solid play by both. Dimitrov was largely able to hold his serve early in the 3rd set despite having to save several break points.
On the Russian's serve he could not apply as much pressure as he wanted to and Medvedev had no issues holding his own. At 3-3, Medvedev decided it was enough and started attacking Dimitrov more. that resulted in more break chances and he was able to break the Bulgarian twice in three games to finish it off with 6-3.
