Medvedev, Rublev, Sinner move on in Melbourne

Medvedev started off his event with a match against Laaksonen and it was an interesting affair for the Russian who came out hot. Medvedev smashed his opponent easily in the first set with 6-1 showcasing he was ready for another grand slam. The 2nd set needed a bit more effort as the Swiss player was much better but once again it was Medvedev with 6-4.

The 3rd set needed even more effort as it was decided in a tiebreak but once again it was Medvedev who proved better with 7-3. Fellow Russian Andrey Rublev will join him in the next round after he defeated Gianluca Mager from Italy in straight sets. The score was 6-3 6-2 6-2. Proving that Italians can also win in Australia was Jannik Sinner.

The recent returnee to the top 10 got underway against Joao Sousa and he had no issues. Playing very aggressively and better as time went on he cruised past the Portuguese 6-4 7-5 6-1. All three have looked really good and all three are hoping for a deep run.
