Daniil Medvedev is the second seed at the Madrid Open but survived a tricky test en route to reaching the Quarter-Finals against compatriot Alexander Shevchenko.
Medvedev had to come from a set down to see off Shevchenko in a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 win in which he had to come from 4-2 down in the third and produce some of his best tennis in the last portion of the tie.
Shevchenko took the first before Medvedev showed the response of a champion to level it up to force a three-set thriller.
Medvedev was broken to start the first but it started a trend with four breaks in seven games to open the deciding set.
The former held from 0-40 down to make it 4-4, before Shevchenko started to cramp up and Medvedev surged toward the finishing line.
