A particular situation unfolded at the Miami Open following the rains on Tuesday, March 25, which forced changes to the schedule. The packed agenda, initially distributed between Hard Rock Stadium and the Grand Stand, required adjustments.
The match between Alexander Zverev and Arthur Fils was originally scheduled for the prime evening time slot, following the clash between Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen. However, it was decided to suspend the match until tomorrow, leaving only Sabalenka/Zheng for the evening in the stadium.
The afternoon rains caused the suspension of a couple of matches, leading to a disruption in the planned agenda. The match between Francisco Cerundolo and Casper Ruud was halted while the Argentine was leading 6-4, 5-1. A similar fate befell the match between Sebastian Korda and Gaël Monfils, which was nearing its conclusion with Korda leading 6-4, 2-6, 4-3.
The match between Magda Linette and Jasmine Paolini, initially scheduled in the main stadium, was moved to the Grand Stand once the Ruud/Cerundolo match concluded.
What’s most striking is the possibility of three high-level matches being played at the same time: Lorenzo Musetti and Novak Djokovic are scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM local time at the main stadium, while Taylor Fritz and Adam Walton will face off in the Grand Stand at 6:30 PM. At the same time, Alex de Minaur and Matteo Berrettini will take to the court at the Butch Buchholz, the third most important stadium.
All of this is subject to last-minute changes, as the rain has shown no signs of letting up on Tuesday afternoon. Zheng and Sabalenka could potentially play immediately after Djokovic/Musetti in the main stadium.
Wow.
