Canada’s tennis star Milos Raonic has withdrawn from the Hong
Kong Open. The competition is set to be played in China’s city from January
01, 2024.
In the recent turn of events, Raonic has decided not to take
part in the Hong Kong Open. It is not clear why he decided to make such a move.
However, the move is a surprising one considering the 32-year-old has
only played one match since the US Open.
Raonic did not have a great time at the highest level in
2023 where he hardly managed to secure any notable success on the court. He
only played in the main round of the two out of four Grand Slams and on both occasions,
he did not manage to qualify for the third round or beyond.
At Wimbledon, he was knocked out after losing the second-round
tie to America’s Tommy Paul with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. In the US Open,
Raonic was knocked out of the competition after losing the first-round
encounter to Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets with a score of 6-2,
6-3, 6-4.
Raonic will be hoping that taking an extended break will help
him regain his loss when he takes the court in 2024.
