One-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Moya has revealed that the
former world number one
Rafael Nadal’s preparation ahead of his much-needed
return has been better than expected.
The 37-year-old is still recovering from a knee injury
sustained earlier this year. It was because of this reason he ended up missing
three out of four Grand Slams.
Moya has been recently quoted in a report where he stated that
Nadal’s preparation ahead of his much-awaited return has been going ahead of
the plan.
“The last few days in Kuwait we have trained with Fils, and
the truth is that it was very good, much better than he could have expected,” said
the 1998 French Open winner. “Rafa came there thinking that he was not going to
be competitive, that he was not going to be up to par, and he leaves convinced
that he might be.”
Nadal is often regarded as one of the greatest players in the
history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 22 Grand
Slam titles. His most successful competition has been the French Open where he
lifted the title 14 times, the most by any player in the tournament’s history. It is
because of this reason he is also labelled as the ‘King of Clay’.
