Russian tennis prodigy Mirra Andreeva has battled her way to the final at the 2025 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, joining former World No.1 Maria Sharapova in achieving an impressive feat.
The World No.14 defeated sixth seed Elena Rybakina in their semifinal clash on Friday. Andreeva will now take on surprise finalist Clara Tauson, as the Danish star battled past former Roland Garros runner-up Karolina Muchova to book her spot in the final.
The 17-year old overcame stiff competition to reach the final. However, she achieved a notable feat en route to the championship match, as she became the youngest player to defeat three Grand Slam champions at the same event. Retired compatriot and five-time Major titlist Maria Sharapova was the last person to accomplish this task, defeating multiple Grand Slam champions at the 2004 WTA Finals.
Andreeva first fought past former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the second round, recording a 7-5 6-0 victory. The Russian followed this with a 6-3 6-3 demolition of five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. Andreeva would then defeat former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the semifinals, securing her spot in the biggest final of her career.
