Russia’s tennis star Daniil Medvedev has admitted that he
made a mistake during a heated exchange in the Monte-Carlo Masters. The
28-year-old was involved in a heated exchange with the chair umpire during the
round of 32 clash against France’s Gael Monfils where screamed “It’s a freaking
joke. It’s out, how did I lose the game when it’s out? It's out, it's
out!"
The comment did not go down well with the match official who
ended up penalising him during the match as well. Medvedev was recently quoted
in a report where he admitted that he crossed the line during that encounter
but refused to promise that he would not react in a similar manner in the future.
"Mistakes happen, I make mistakes on the court and now
sitting here calmly I recognize those mistakes," said the world number four. "I love football, in every match
there is some mistake and in tennis we have seen other players make some. But
in the moment it is very difficult to control emotions, so I do not regret it,
it is something that can happen. That's how I reacted and I wish I hadn't
reacted like that. So we'll see if it happens next time. I can't promise
anything, but I hope I can focus more on the game than on the mistake itself."
