Benoit Paire and Gael Monfils secured the first point in Group A at the ATP Cup for Team France after their victories in singles.
In Brisbane, Benoit Paire kicked-off the day against Nicolas Jarry. In H2H, Paire was winning 2-0 and Jarry did not win a match on ATP Tour since 21st of July 2019.
However, the Frenchman did not enter the match ideally. He lost the first set in a tie-break and needed to fight in order to turn the match around. And so he did as he remained the high-level of first service what was his main weapon in the match. Paire won the second and third set identically 6-3 in 35 minutes.
World number 10,
Gael Monfils could have added the second needed point for France against Christian Garin. During the match, Monfils showed some stunning strikes again as he entertained the crowd in Australia. The Frenchman won the match after 81 minutes 6-3 and 7-5.
Despite the fact that France has probably the strongest duo in doubles, Mahut & Roger-Vasselin did not manage to outplay Garin & Jarry. Team from Chile won the match after 75 minutes 7-5 and 6-2, but France won the tie 2-1 as they earned their first point at the 2020 ATP Cup.
