Japan has to play at the inaugural ATP Cup without their main weapon, Kei Nishikori. Former world number 4 withdrew from the tournament and so the Japanese team does have a hard task ahead of them.
And they started perfectly. First, Go Soeda defeated Martin Cuevas in just 74 minutes 6-1 and 6-3. Yoshihito Nishioka added another comfortable victory when he lost just one game to Pablo Cuevas. Nishioka won 6-0 and 6-1 in just 55 minutes.
Having already earned a victory in the tie, Japan also dominated in doubles. Matsui & McLachlan defeated Behar & Pablo Cuevas in 81 minutes 7-6 and 6-4. On Monday, Japan will be playing against Georgia for a chance to advance into the quarterfinal.
