Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina got married days before heading off for Tokyo to compete at the Olympic Games.
Monfils and Svitolina have been a tennis power couple for some time now and they tied the knot recently after a two year long relationship. The couple however will not go the traditional route as a honeymoon will have to wait. Both of them will compete at the Tokyo Olympic games where Monfils will represent France while Svitolina will play for Ukraine.
Speaking with ITF Svitolina said:
"We are used to having so many competitions in a year so there is no time for resting. Now it's time to focus on tennis and the Olympics of course. It's very special for any athlete to be here. The honeymoon is planned for November!"
Svitolina also spoke about being at the Olympics only days after getting married:
"It's unbelievable to be fair. So many exciting events in my life. Now it's so nice to be at the Olympics. It was unbelievable to have a wedding and right now, with the COVID restrictions, it was unbelievable to have two families join together. We had an amazing time."
Asked about expectations in Tokyo she simply said:
"But now we are here. We have to prepare and hopefully to play well here in Tokyo."
