Clay tennis is not the type of tennis that is particularly popular outside of certain countries so the active list of players with the most wins on the surface features some surprises along with the obvious like
Rafael Nadal.
Everybody who follows tennis in any shape or form knows that Rafael Nadal is the king of clay. Nobody dominated on that surface as much as the Spaniard did and he's the player with the most wins on the surface. He has 474 wins on clay which is by far the most out of all active players right now. It's almost twice as much as Novak Djokovic has.
The Serbian indeed sits at number two with 257 wins on the surface. Number three on the list is Fernando Verdasco. The veteran has been playing for many years and over those years he was able to get to 236 wins which is good enough for 3rd place. Most fans remember him best for his forehand and his Australian Open run but it's clay tennis that features him in the top 5.
Number four might surprise many but it's actually Fabio Fognini as he has 229 wins on clay right now. He was going for win number 230 yesterday but an injury prevented him of getting there. Fognini has played some amazing matches on the surface in the best beating Nadal on it as well. Number four is Albert Ramos, a noted clay specialist that always played his best tennis on clay.
