Patrick Mouratoglou has emphasized Holger Rune's potential to become a future world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion
The French tennis coach is experienced in the tennis world and has worked with several top players, including Simona Halep, Grigor Dimitrov, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Serena Williams. Ten of Serena Williams' Grand Slam titles were achieved while working with Mouratoglou.
Since Halep's suspension, Mouratoglou has been temporarily working with Holger Rune and was involved when the Danish player won his first Masters 1000 in Paris, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. The coach mentioned on Instagram that when Rune competes in a Grand Slam, his goal is to become the champion.
"Now when Holger plays a Grand Slam, it's to win it. If you think you wake up tomorrow and you're No. 1, that's not the right way to think. Everything is a journey to success with development and wins," he said.
"Now if I look back at a Holger in October and him now, I think he is a different player. He grew a lot. He developed a lot. He won a lot. He was World No. 30 in October. He's now 5 or 6, which is not the final destination, but he made a big step," Mouratoglou added.
According to the tennis coach and commentator, Rune is already an established player in the top 10, and the next step he should potentially take is to become the world No. 1 and win a Grand Slam
"He is also tired, physically, mentally. It's not an excuse, but it's a fact and I think it's time to sit down and think what the good things that have been done but also what needs to be done in the future to the next evolution from a top 10 player, a solid top 10, because now, what we can say, he's a solid top 10 to a potential No. 1 and a Grand Slam winner," Mouratoglou said.
Rune's next tournament will be the Halle Open, where he is the second seed. This tournament will allow him to find his rhythm on grass as he prepares for his participation in Wimbledon.
