Musetti came very close to beating Novak Djokovic in their Roland Garros match but after losing that match he found himself playing some lacklustre tennis across several events on the hard courts. Now he is back indoors and his game might work a bit better in these conditions as he continues to develope his game. He faced Marc Polmans from Australia who isn't a top player but can be tricky to beat on his day.
Polmans played a solid match overall but Musetti was the one who had the edge early. He broke Polmans a few times in the first set which he won with 6-4. Musetti's serve was a bit shaky and he will need to work on it if he wants to have success away from clay. In the 2nd set, Polmans was able to completely expose his serve.
Returning well and playing strong and aggressive from the baseline the Australian was able to win the set with 6-2. Musetti is still plagued with inconsistencies in his game, as any young player is, and he will need to improve on that before he makes the jump to the top of the world. At the start of the 3rd set players traded early breaks.
Musetti was able to escape with one break up and from there he finally found his rhythm again keeping Polmans at bay. He finished off the match with a 6-4 final set finish earning himself a good win and some points. Musetti is still in the race for the Next-Gen ATP Finals in Milano this year.
