The Argentine has had an up and down year with not the greatest of results with the low point coming a few days ago with a loss to a junior who never played a professional match. However, he will look to bounce back at the Laver Cup where he returns after playing in the event in 2018. Schwartzman did achieve something special this year by winning the Argentina Open.
It was his first trophy since 2019 and he became the first Argentine winner of the Argentina Open since David Nalbandian. After that he said:
“It was an emotional week. [It was] very different because in the other weeks you don’t have all your family and friends with you, the people who never see you on the court. Having these moments, sharing this with them and winning the title is a totally different feeling. It’s amazing.”
Results like these prompted John McEnroe to invite him to the Laver Cup once more and he accepted because he had an amazing time the last time he played in it. Remembering that he said:
“The Laver Cup is such a great event. Playing in
front of a full stadium at the United Center in Chicago back in 2018 was
just incredible. I can only imagine, after the year we’ve all had, what the
the atmosphere will be like in front of a full capacity home crowd at TD
Garden – it’s going to be incredible.”
