Although Team World is yet to lift the Laver Cup trophy, Denis Shapovalov believes they will have a chance this year in Boston, albeit it a difficult one.
The Canadian will represent Team World as they battle Team Europe in the annual event, with the Europeans having won every edition since the tournament's inception in 2017.
Team Europe will feature several of the world's Top 10 players, including 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev. Team World includes Shapovalov, compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime and the irreverent Nick Kyrgios.
“I’m so excited to be back with Team World for another Laver Cup,” Shapovalov said. “I have great memories from both Prague and Geneva a couple of years ago."
The Wimbledon semifinalist will be making his third appearance at the event, but is yet to secure a win following three defeats.
"It was a lot of fun being on the team with guys that I’m normally facing across the net and of course having McEnroe as our team leader – it’s such an honor," added the World No.12. "It’s definitely going to be a tough challenge for us, but I really believe if we all work together and play our best tennis we have a great chance.”
