Alexander Zverev has taken down Marcos Giron 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 to move into the fourth round and the second week of
Wimbledon where he will face off against Jiri Lehecka.
The second seed spoke to
Prime Video post match and this included surrounding his superstitions but ironically more off the court than on it with Zverev saying that he has huge OCD.
He spoke about Lehecka post match and what he thinks about his next opponent, he said that he has wide ranging ups and downs and he expects both greatness at times and poor play at others and there is no inbetween so either way he's expecting a hard or easy route through.
"He's a player who either plays unbelievably badly or unbelievably well—I don't think there's much in between with him. He's had three very convincing matches here and has played some really, really good tennis, so I expect him to play at a very high level again in two days," said Zverev to Prime Video. "I think this will be the biggest challenge I've faced so far in this tournament. But I feel good. I have to trust myself and trust my game, and then we'll see what happens."
Current winning streak and superstitions
Zverev also spoke about his current winning streak and said that it comes naturally and that he has a certain confidence that he doesn't want misconstrued as arrogance but it enables him to walk onto court free and happy.
"I think it comes naturally. Sometimes you're in a phase where everything just keeps rolling, like a ball that's already in motion. You have to appreciate those moments and make the most of them because it's very difficult to get into that kind of rhythm. As long as I'm in that phase, I feel like I'm playing good tennis. There's also a certain sense of confidence now. Maybe it sounds a bit arrogant, but it's actually something positive. I just want to keep playing good tennis—that's the main thing."
Alexander Zverev zips through at Wimbledon.
He also remarked on superstitions and how his girlfriend Sophia goes crazy due to him needing everything to be correct but that on court he doesn't bring that through so he doesn't go crazy.
"I'm incredibly superstitious off the court. Off the court I definitely have my quirks. On the court I try to have as few as possible. For example, everything has to be perfectly straight—my shoes have to be lined up properly, my toothbrush always has to be in exactly the same position, things like that. I'm incredibly tidy at home. Everything has to be in order. But on the court I try not to have those habits. It makes me sound like Monk, but at home Sophia goes completely crazy because of me. If there's even one drop left in the sink, I'll always clean the entire sink before I go to bed."
