Nadal breezes past Thompson while Carreno-Busta defeates Gombos to advance at Paris Masters

It was a quick day at the office for Nadal who defeated 6-1 7-6(3) in just over an hour and a half. The start of the match featured the only good play from Thompson as the Spaniard quickly took control of the match with his signature aggressive style. Thompson struggled to get anything going as his serve was immediately attacked and as soon as the rally developed Nadal was already quick to end it. A stellar display and two breaks were enough for Nadal to win the opening set 6-1. The 2nd set was much by Thompson who completely changed his game mixing it up more which proved very effective. He improved in every aspect of his game and that gave Nadal troubles. Very late in the set Thompson even forced a break ball which was actually a set point but Nadal saved it after a spectacular rally. In it, Nadal did what he does best and grinded out the win against Thompson.
