Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev in the second match of the group stage at the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals in London.

After losing in the first match at the ATP Finals, in 2 sets, both players needed a victory in this one, in order to keep hopes for semifinals alive.
The beginning was patient when both of the players kept their service games in the first set. Although Medvedev had one break point in the 7th game, Nadal saved it and so tie-break decided about the result of the first set. There Nadal led already 3-2, but from that moment, Medvedev won 5 points in a row and won the first set.
Nadal started the second set motivated to turn the match. He broke Medvedev's serve in the first game and added another break in 9th to win it 6-3.
In the third set, Medvedev led already 5-1 and 40-30, but Nadal leveled the score and again a tie-break decided about the third set. This time, Nadal was better in the tie-break and won it 7-4 to earn his first point at the 2019 ATP Finals.
