Three times champion Rafael Nadal stays undefeated in 2022 (14-0), beating future #1 Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-3 to reach a 5th career final in Acapulco.
Rafael Nadal seems to have the Medvedev code figured out as the Spaniard once again defeated the Russian.
It was a very close match and quite a long one for an 18-game match as both players were trying to outsmart one another. Rallies were quite long as Nadal tried to attack and Medvedev put up his usual wall but eventually, the Spaniard proved more patient in most rallies. It was a fabulous affair and proof that Nadal is truly back to playing some spectacular tennis.
Medvedev did give Nadal quite a bit of trouble which was quite similar to Australia but once again Nadal was able to battle it out. The Spaniard faced 11 break points in the match and saved all of them. Medvedev faced only 6 but saved only 3 as well highlighting the key difference in the match. Obviously, Nadal is very familiar with Acapulco having played the final four times already with the upcoming against Norrie being the 5th.
The Spaniard also improved to 14-0 on the season which is the best mark in his career and his 3rd final overall in 2021. We won both previous ones and he will be heavily favoured against Norrie who recently triumphed in Delray Beach. A superb effort From Nadal who exposed Medvedev's 2nd serve winning 18 of 24 points on that serve.
