Rafael Nadal made his return to the courts in Australia with a win a doubles match with Munar against Baez and Etcheverry 6-3 3-6 10-4.
Rafael Nadal pulled a Houdini when he arrived in Australia seemingly without anybody knowing after raising suspicion whether he would play or not. After arriving down under, reports came out about Nadal looking really good in practice and today he demonstrated some of that solid tennis on the court. Pairing up with compatriot Munar, Nadal stepped out to play some doubles and they were able to win the match.
It was a nice and quick doubles match for Nadal who played pretty well early on with Munar. They had no trouble whatsoever on their own serve winning games quickly and efficiently. Their opponents did the same for the most part losing their serve only once which was enough for Nadal and Munar to win it 6-3.
The 2nd set opened well for the Argentinians as they were able to go up 3-0. After that, both teams settled in nicely and we did not see any more breaks. Baez and Etcheverry closed it out with 6-3 sending the match into the deciding set. The quality of Nadal and Munar came out in the deciding set as they were able to slowly build up a lead.
They eventually closed it out with 10-4 to move on. A solid start for Nadal who had some brilliant moments like the one you can see below. A true rocket of a forehand.
