Despite a disappointing early round loss at the 2025 Australian Open, tennis ace Nick Kyrgios appears to be in good spirits as he lavished praise of tennis legends, Serena Williams and Roger Federer.

The Canberra native had been out of action for over 18 months as he struggled with various injuries. Kyrgios had not participated at a Grand Slam tournament since the 2022 US Open, where he reached the quarterfinals.

Kyrgios makes comeback in Melbourne

The former World No.13 was forced to spend an extended amount of time on the sidelines due to a nagging wrist injury. There was talk of Kyrgios hanging up his racket, but he battled through his ailments in order to make a comeback at the start of the 2025 ATP season.

Kyrgios was given a wildcard entry to his home Grand Slam event, where he faced upcoming British star Jacob Fearnley in the first round. Despite the Aussie's best attempts ad the support of the home crowd, Kyrgios was unable to overcome Fearnley, falling in straight sets.

Nonetheless, the former Wimbledon runner-up seems to be getting back into the groove of life on tour. During a word-association game with the Get Tennis Podcast, Kyrgios was asked to describe tennis greats Federer and Williams using only one word.

“Pretty, like pretty to watch, like the most natural player to watch,” elaborated Kyrgios when asked to describe Federer. Regarding Williams, Kyrgios summed up her career with one word, "champion."

Both Federer and Williams have set numerous records in the sport, and are widely regarding as the greatest male and female tennis players of all time. Although Kyrgios is yet to win a singles Major title, the 29-year old will have more opportunities as he ramps up his activity on tour.
