Nick Kyrgios who will technically return this week at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown has hit out at
Jannik Sinner escaping suspension after he tested positive for substance Clostebol.
Sinner supposedly tested positive due to a cream administered by his physio during Indian Wells. But no suspension was confirmed at the time and it has since been proven that he bore no fault or negligence for the positive finding.
But Kyrgios is puzzled by it and said that he should serve the two year suspension calling it ridiculous. He said that whether it was accidental or planned, you should be gone if you test positive for two years and questioned the validity of using massage cream to test positive.
Others have also pointed towards double standards as Simona Halep for instance was left in limbo for a long time surrounding her positive test for a similar sort of incident but Sinner was still allowed to play. It is a story that has taken the tennis world by storm on Tuesday and Sinner will get a myriad of perspectives from many names before the US Open.
"Ridiculous - whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah nice," said Kyrgios on X.
A user replied saying that his performances were not enhanced to which Kyrgios questioned why he got his points stripped as a result. "Then why did they take prize money and points from Indian Wells? So he did something wrong or he didn’t? Because they did say he failed 2 tests."
He also responded to someone calling it accidental. "Accidental? You truly believe that the physio rubbed physio cream onto a cut that made him fail 2 anabolic steroid tests. Cmon potato," he said.
