Alex de Minaur takes the 'bounce' out of injuries

Australia’s Alex de Minaur is looking forward to producing the goods in the 2025 season. The 25-year-old is currently regarded as the best player in Australia in men’s tennis in the singles category and has had an impressive season this year despite struggling with fitness concerns.

De Minaur, despite playing just one event between July and October because of injury concerns, managed to play in the ATP Finals, largely because of his performances in the events towards the latter stages of the season and also because of the withdrawal of the former world number one Novak Djokovic from the competition because of fitness concerns.

Overall, De Minaur played 62 matches across all competitions, winning 44 times and suffering 18 defeats. His most impressive performance this year came in an ATP 500 event in Acapulco, Mexico, where he lifted the title after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. The world number nine has been recently quoted in a report where he talked about the upcoming season in detail. De Minaur expressed excitement about participating in the forthcoming events and hopes to use tournaments such as the United Cup as a perfect opportunity to prepare for the big competitions ahead.

"I have enjoyed the moment, I've done my best to relish the achievements we've had this year," he said. "There's been a lot of highs and a lot of lows, with the injuries. More than anything it's just given me a lot of hunger to build for better things.

"This whole preseason I've been motivated because I want more. I want to keep pushing myself and hopefully I can accomplish that this year. I'm feeling great. It was a tough year dealing with that [groin injury]. I'm glad to finally put it on the backburner and forget about it. I've felt very good in this off-season, we've put in a lot of good work, the body is feeling very comfortable."

He also showed excitement for Nick Kyrgios returning in the coming weeks to the tour. "I think it's super exciting for Australian fans to have him back," the 25-year-old said.

"I'm sure there's going to be a lot of eyeballs on him getting started in Brisbane.

"It's great to have Australian tennis going out so strongly and showing that we are a very strong force to be reckoned with."
