Australia’s tennis star
Nick Kyrgios believes that Italy’s
Jannik Sinner can become the next Novak Djokovic after his recent heroics.
The 22-year-old is often regarded as one of the most
highly-rated young tennis players currently playing in the men’s singles
category alongside Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner lived up to the hype in the ongoing
Australian Open
where he booked his place in the final of the mega-event after beating the
current world number one in the semifinal with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3. It
was his third win against Djokovic in the last three months.
Kyrgios, who is currently spending time on the sidelines as
he continues his recovery from an injury, was recently quoted in a report where
he admitted that Alcaraz has an ‘X’ factor in his game but backed Sinner to become
as successful as Djokovic because of ability and willingness to learn and
become better.
"He's just always willing to learn and get better,” said
the former world number 10. “I've been keeping my out on him for the last year
or two and he deserves all the success that's going to come his way and I'm
sure that we're gonna see him in many more finals. That's for sure.
"Darren Cahill's a great coach, the changes that he's
made in his game and the willingness for Jannik Sinner to give it a try has now
elevated him to the top of the sport. No one has beaten Novak here in so long
and in that fashion as well. Novak didn't even create one break point.
"I just love the
fact that Sinner compared. I love that comparison. He’s like him and Novak play
similar. I can see it. After today, I definitely think that Sinner could be the
new Novak. I mean [Carlos] Alcaraz obviously he's got that X factor maybe a
little bit more flamboyant with his game style but Sinner is solid.”
