Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios sent a wholesome message to Japan's Kei Nishikori, following the former Grand Slam runner-up's withdrawal from the ongoing Miami Open.

Both Kyrgios and Nishikori have struggled with various ailments over the past few seasons, with Kyrgios taking over a year off after having surgery. The former Wimbledon runner-up made his return after 18 months at the Brisbane International in January, and followed it up with appearances at his native Australian Open and the Indian Wells Masters event in California last week.

Nishikori opted out of Miami due to need for rest and recovery

The former World No.4 has been active on the ATP tour this season, as opposed to years in the past when he dealt with injuries. Nishikori made a second round appearance at the Australian Open and Indian Wells, before falling in the semifinals of an ATP Challenger event in Arizona last week.

Although the Japanese star was slated to face compatriot Yoshihito Nishioka in the opening round of the Miami Open, Nishikori withdrew from the ATP Masters event, citing his need for recovery after a tough slew of matches in Arizona.

"Unfortunately I have to pull out of the @MiamiOpen today. My body has not recovered enough from the matches last week. I will now go home and get ready for the clay court season," wrote Nishikori on Twitter.

Several fans and members of the tennis community were quick to wish the Japanese star well, with Kyrgios sending his greetings in a wholesome message.

"We are just blessed to still have you ✅," wrote Kyrgios on Twitter.

The Aussie star secured his first win in over a year on the ATP Tour on Wednesday, rallying from a set down to defeat American Mackenzie McDonald in their opening round match in Miami. Kyrgios will face Russian Karen Khachanov in the second round.
