Just like a couple of weeks ago in Montreal,
Nick Kyrgios stunned
Daniil Medvedev beating him 7-6(11) 3-6 6-3 6-2.
The stakes were much higher in this match as it was the 4th round of the
US Open but the level of Kyrgios was even higher. The Australian player was very focused in this match and he looked sharper than he has ever looked before. Many wondered how far he could go in this event and after this win, there is very little he can't do.
The first set was decided by a brutally good tiebreak where Kyrgios played a killer drop shot to set himself up to take the first. He eventually did, by converting a 4th set point. In the 2nd set, Medvedev jumped out to an early lead and never looked back taking it 6-3. The next set was a good one by both players but the Australian served better and attacked more which was key.
The Russian did not play badly at all but he did not serve well at all. In conditions like these, it proved like a big advantage to Kyrgios, especially as the match went on. The final one was another good one but once again it was Kyrgios who risked more and was rewarded for it.
The loss ensures that Rafael Nadal will overtake Medvedev in the rankings.
