Nick Kyrgios anticipated a tricky encounter in the opening round of Wimbledon but he certainly did not think he would win the match with the score 3-6 6-1 7-5 6-7(3) 7-5.
It was a match that lasted three hours and it saw Kyrgios battle back from a deficit to win a match in five sets. It was not easy but Kyrgio was able to remain calm and win the match against an inspired player who had the crowd on his side. Jubb played great and the took the opening set 6-3 behind super solid play.
Kyrgios was down 15-40 in the opening game of the 2nd set but the Australian was able to take that game. His opponent completely fell apart after missing that opportunity losing rather easily 6-1. The 3rd set featured better play from Kyrgios once again with the Australian doing the damage fairly late in the final set 7-5.
The 4th set was a very close one with both players putting on a very high level. Neither allowed a single break point in the entire set but in the tiebreak, it was native Jubb that go the win 7-3. Kyrgios was largely the better player being a break up and serving for the match at 5-3. He was broken when serving for it and Jubb had another break point at 5-5.
Eventually Kyrgios was able to close out the match 7-5 and move on.
