Nick Kyrgios has officially withdrawn from the MercedesCup in Stuttgart, a grass event running from June 8th till June 13th.
Nick Kyrgios has missed the entire clay season citing safety issues related to the pandemic but the Australian was set to make his long-awaited return to tennis at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart. After that event, he was supposed to play at Queen's Club and in Mallorca.
All of those events are grass-court events held in the month of June before we reach Wimbledon which is supposed to start on June 28th. However, he announced on his Instagram account that he is dealing with neck discomfort officially withdrawing from the MercedesCup. He wrote:
"My tennis family, I am sorry my return has been pushed back as I am having uncomfortable pain in my neck at the moment. I am trying to get on top of that but as I can't serve 100 % I will only be returning when I feel can make a full impact on the tour. Will stay in touch."
It's not yet clear if Kyrgios will play at the rest of the grass-court season but a family member was quoted as saying they are hopeful he will be able to play at Wimbledon. We will keep you updated with more on the situation.
