The Japanese no. 1, Kei Nishikori announced that he won't be able to help his country in the Davis Cup Qualifiers tie against Ecuador.

Japan is the 11th seeded country in the 2020 Davis Cup Qualifiers and they will be facing Ecuador at home. Kei Nishikori, Yoshihito Nishioka, Yasutaka Uchiyama, Go Soeda, Ben McLachlan were supposed to represent their country, however, the Japanese no. 1 pulled out of the tie.
Nishikori did not play a competitive match since 2019 US Open where he lost to Alex De Minaur in the 3rd round. Former world number 4 wants to wait before his return. Kei needs to know that he is 100% ready before returning to the courts.
“Physically I’m not at my max.” AFP news quoted Nishikori as saying on Thursday. I want to return to the competition after I improve my strength and become fully confident. It might be after Miami or during the clay season.”
