Seven-time Grand Slam champion
John McEnroe believes that no
player wants to face Australia’s
Nick Kyrgios in
Wimbledon 2023.
The third Grand Slam of the year is set to be played from 03-06
July in London.
Former world number one McEnroe, who won Wimbledon three
times (1981, 1983, 1984), while talking
to
iNews as quoted by SportKeeda, suggested that the last year’s finalist will be
a difficult opponent this time around as well.
“I remember seeing him last year in terms of his training,”
said the 64-year-old. “He looked fitter. He was moving better. He was more
committed. And look what it resulted in. He was able to get to a Wimbledon
final.
“To me, he would be a major threat on grass if he is on. No
one wants to play him, that I can assure you of. Obviously, if he’s back and
fit and mentally sort of focused, he’s going to give it his all, then yes he
can be a threat.”
The 28-year-old lost the last year’s Wimbledon final against
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
Since then, the Canberra-born has lost just five times in 21
outings across different competitions.
