Simona Halep dropped out of the top 10 this week but the Romanian player is neither upset nor sad.
Simona Halep swallowed a tough pill early in the year when she suffered a lower leg injury that looked bad. It turned out to be actually worse as the Romanian player missed over two months of action because of it. It was especially painful to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon which are some of her favourite events of the year.
Halep, who will return to tennis at the National Bank Open in Montreal this week, is not upset about it keeping a positive outlook. She said:
“Unfortunately, the injury got me out. I can say that because I wasn’t able to play for three months so I didn’t have the chance to give my best to stay in the top 10.”
Halep further said:
“I’m not sad, I’m not upset, I’m not disappointed. I just take it as a new challenge."
Challenges were always embraced by Halep and getting back onto the court will feature a mammoth one. As a seed, she was given a 1st round BYE however she might face Danielle Collins in the 2nd round who won back to back titles in Palermo and San Jose.
