Novak Djokovic produced a really solid effort to avoid playing two sets against Cameron Norrie beating the Brit 6-3 6-4 to advance to the Rome Open quarter-finals.
Djokovic has been playing solid tennis since he arrived in Rome but it was not as good as it can be. Today was a step in that direction as his level looks better with every match he plays. That's hardly a surprise for anyone but it's good news for Djokovic fans who got a bit worried after they saw him deal with some elbow issues in the first match.
The first set here was pretty solid from Djokovic despite some issues. He didn't serve well and pressed too much at times committing 3 double faults. He still managed to avoid any break points which is quite remarkable as was his winning percentage after his 1st serve (12/13). On return, he was able to create four break chances and use one.
Pretty solid performance for a 6-3 finish. The second set was similar though he did serve better this time. Norrie played a bit better as well and actually broke Djokovic in this set. It wasn't enough as he was broken twice which was good enough for Djokovic to take it 6-4. Just a solid performance from the Serbian.
