A fantastic match was played on Court No. 1 today with
Novak Djokovic beating Denis Kudla in straight-sets 6-4 6-3 7-6(7).
It was somewhat of an unusual affair for Novak Djokovic who found himself playing outside the Centre Court but he was still able to defeat Kudal in three sets. The American loves to play on grass and he showed that today where he pushed Novak quite hard especially in the final set.
Djokovic played measured in the first set focusing on his own serve in a way not to give his opponent a lead. Djokovic was well aware of the prowess of Kudla on grass and he was careful not to give him an edge. It was a close set with the only one point being the difference.
The 2nd set was not a good one by Kudla although the score would not say it. He made too many mistakes and gave Djokovic too many opportunities which the Serbian converted. He came back much stronger in the 3rd taking an early lead 2-0 which he held for a few games.
Djokovic would break back and we ended up in a tiebreak. In it, Kudla jumped out to a 3-0 lead which neutralized quickly. Kudla played well up until the tiebreak where he committed a few very bad errors slamming the ball into the net. In the end, one such error sent Djokovic to the next round.
