Novak Djokovic is currently stepping up his preparation for Indian Wells which starts this week. Also taking place in California was the 20th annual Desert Smash, a charity event where professional tennis players team up with celebrities.
This year's edition was hosted by actress Charlize Theron, highlighting her charity's Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. Theron was originally partnered with Frances Tiafoe in a mixed doubles match, before Djokovic made a surprise appearance and took over from the American.
The event, held at La Quinta Resort & Club - just three miles away from Indian Wells, also saw stars such as Casper Ruud, Ons Jabeur, British musician Gavin Rossdale and actress and comedian Yvonne Orji take part.

- Tennis is ridiculous to maintain the tradition of silence. If they can play in open courts like Rome with all the noise from each court they surely could survive cheering, etc., during play (i.e., a singles match with only a 2 meter fence between them and a men's doubles -- and very loud noise from each side).mandoist10-05-2024
