Djokovic took on Tommy Paul in what promised to be an interesting match, but was anything but that as Djokovic cruised unbothered 7-5 6-1 6-2.
Tommy Paul played the worst tennis match of all this year against Djokovic in the semi-final and it had a lot to do with what Djokovic was doing. Similarly to that, Djokovic played one of his worst sets against Paul in the first one and he was still able to get it done. Djokovic was up 5-1 in the first set after somewhat of a slow start.
Djokovic saved break points in the first game of the match but then quickly jumped out to a 5- 1 lead. A small spat with the umpire cut short his momentum as Paul was able to battle back to 5-5. Djokovic was missing quite a bit from the start of the match and he finished the opening set with the most unforced errors he had in a set in the entire event.
Not only that he had more than in most matches played which shows just how poorly he played. Even so, he won it 7-5 and then largely cruised after that. The first-set win gave him confidence and he quickly tore Paul apart in the second 6-1. The final set was another good as he cruised 6-2 to set up the final against Tsitsipas.
