It promised to be a very solid matchup but it proved anything but Djokovic easily cruised past Kokkinakis 6-1 6-4 6-2.
Novak Djokovic is through to the 3rd round of
Wimbledon with another solid performance and this once came against a player that could have given him some trouble. Kokkinakis has all the tools to do well on grass but today he was easily overmatched by Djokovic who did not even have to do much. Kokkinakis was pretty solid the entire match when he hit his first serve.
When he failed to hit his first serve Djokovic largely feasted. The served was not consistent enough and the forehand was shaky at best and that was never going to do against Djokovic. Kokkinakis won only 9 of 31 points after missing his first serve and that was the difference in all of the sets. Ony the 2nd set was a bit better by the Aussie but it was still not good enough.
Overall Djokovic jumped out to an early lead in the opening set 3-0 and never looked back asking it 6-1. The 2nd set was quite competitive but when he needed the break, Djokovic simply put things into a higher gear and got it 6-4. The final set was another solid one with some slight complications at the end but still quick enough 6-2.
