Garbine Muguruza won this event and played pretty well last year but this time around she got beaten by Greetje Minnen 6-4 6-0.
It was a match that was played on two different days because the play was abandoned last night when it got too dark to play. Muguruza arrived at Wimbledon struggling with her form for a good part of the season. It started way back in Madrid and since then the Spanish player is unable to string together a couple of good matches together.
It persisted on clay and continued on grass as well. Leading up to Wimbledon Muguruza played badly and it continued here. Round two against a solid player in Minnen but also a player she should beat easily. The opening set was played yesterday and it featured Minenn jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. Muguruza would break back at 5-3 to make it 5-4 but lose her serve to lose the set.
Play was abandoned and continued today but it was even worse from Muguruza. She did not adjust at all and she did not show anything new compared to yesterday. She dropped her serve early and never found anything good after that losing the set with a bagel. 9 winners and 21 unforced errors for Muguruza. Very poor indeed.
